UPSC 2014

UPSC-2014

1. Calculate the maximum usable frequency for a transmitting station having a critical frequency of 13 MHz propagating with an angle of incidence of 60° for a given destination...

Solution:

Formula:

f1= fc / cosθ -------------(1)

f1= maximum usable frequency

fc= critical frequency or highest frequency reflected at vertical incidence from a given layer

θ= angle of incidence

fc= 13 * 106 Hz

θ= 600

From equation (1)

f1= 13 * 106 / cos 600 ( cos600= 1/2)

    = 2* 13* 106

    = 26 * 106 Hz

Maximum usable frequency (f1)= 26 MHz
