GATE-2012 (26)

GATE-2012

Q.26: The average magnetic susceptibility of dolerite is 1400. What is its magnetic permeability in h/m? (Give answer up to 5 decimal places)

A)  0.00176            B) 0.00211                   C) 0.00302                       D) 0.00354

Solution:
Magnetic susceptibility (k) is a measure of the ease with which the material can be magnetised.

Magnetic permeability (μ) is the measure of the ability of a material to support the formation of magnetic field within itself.

The relation between magnetic permeability and magnetic susceptibility is

μ= 1+ k ------------(1)

k = 1400

μ = 1+1400

    = 1401

(μ= 4*π*10-7 N/m2 (or) henry/ meter)

μ= 1401 * 4 *π * 10-7 h/m

μ= 17596.56* 10-7 h/m

Permeability (μ) = 0.001759656 h/m
