Q.Given a seismic wavelet w=(6, -4 ,-2) and reflectivity series r=(0, 1, 0) , the seismic trace is.....
A) (0, -4, 0, 0, 0)
B) (0, -2, -4, 6, 0)
C) (0, 6, 0, 0, 0)
D) (0, 6, -4, -2, 0)

Solution:
Seismic trace can modeled as the convolution of the input singature with reflectivity function of the earth impulse response , including source signature, recording filter, surface reflections, and geophone response.

Seismic trace = seismic wavelet * reflectivity function+ noise

seismic wavelet w= {6, -4, -2}

reflectivity series r= {0,1,0}

                                        6       -4       -2
                     0        1       0                                                                    0*6= 0
                               0       1         0                                                         (1*6) + (0*-4) = 6
                                        0         1         0                                               (0*6)+(1*-4)+(0*-2) = -4
                                                   0          1         0                                   (0*-4) + (1*-2) = -2
                                                               0         1        0                         (0*-2) = 0

seismic trace = { 0, 6, -4, -2, 0}
